The Rocky River Assistance Program (RRAP) — initiated in 1984 by the Rocky River Junior Women’s Club — is an established community resource for residents in need of food and clothing.

Rocky River Assistance Program’s goal is to provide participants with food and household products for seven days each month.  In addition, children on the program receive new seasonal clothes and items from their holiday wish list.  RRAP also fulfills special requests for household items and provides family members with scholarships and waived fees for various Rocky River programs.

Food Sorting and Packing

Eligibility
Eligibility for RRAP requires residency in Rocky River and financial need. The Rocky River Assistance Program income requirements parallel those of the Ohio Department of Human Services based on the TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance
Program) household eligibility
guidelines.  To establish proof of
residency and financial need, applicants will be asked to present a copy of some of the following documents at registration.

These are 8 of the most typical types of documents required.

• Current or recent month’s utility bill
• Lease agreement
• Recent W-2 form or paycheck stub
• Social Security Award Letter
• Current Unemployment book
• Child Support Statement
• Photo Identification
• Children’s birth certificates

Confidentiality
Full confidentiality is a vital part of RRAP. Most of the Rocky River Junior Women’s Club volunteers know only
of the need . . . not the families’ names.  However, there are some women managing the program who have monthly contact with the participants.  The information is treated with the utmost respect.

Special Requests
When a special request for items such as home furnishings or baby-care supplies arises, RRAP turns to the community to fulfill the need.
Conversely, when RRAP becomes aware of a potential donation from the community of an appliance or furniture, a notice is posted at the
food distribution center at the Beach Education Center.

Other Services
Through the Rocky River Junior Women’s Club, RRAP provides scholarships for children to participate in Recreation Center programs and Rocky River School activities. In addition, fees are waived for the programs such as:

• Selected Rocky River Recreation
Center Activities
• Cub Scouts
• Girl Scouts
• Little League

Distribution
Food is distributed on the third Wednesday of each month. Non-perishable foods can be dropped off at the Beach Education Center between the hours of 9am and 10am on food distribution days. Transportation to retrieve items is the responsibility of the recipient.

Volunteers
Volunteers are needed each month to help sort and pack food for the RRAP families.  Please join us at Beach Education Center on the third Wednesday of each month from 9am to 10am, or on the prior Tuesday night from 7pm to 8pm. One does not need to be a RRJWC member to volunteer and help sort and pack food for the RRAP. Families are welcome! Children enjoy playing in the gym while we sort and pack food.

Food Pantry Location
Beach Education Center is located at 1101 Morewood Pkwy (and Detroit Rd) in Rocky River.
